Hello everyone,
It's been a very productive off season here at Holland Ranch. The Bare Naked Farmer has been planning, planting seeds, watering, weeding, mowing and tilling like crazy! I am amazed at the zillions of seedlings he has started this winter including 2,300 tomato plants! The grant that we applied for from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help us afford a high tunnel greenhouse has not been approved yet so in the meantime we are moving about 80+ trays of seedlings in and out of the garage each day (that's 320 round trips a day!) to allow them sunlight during the day and warmth at night. A farmer's work is never done!
This Saturday, April 5, 2014 we are having our first-ever Holland Ranch Crop Mob volunteer day. Those interested in spending the day volunteering and learning about the workings of a local organic farm are encouraged to join us! The day will begin at 8:00am with a short volunteer training/orientation and then we will work together to put loads of seedlings in the ground. Lunch will be provided for all full day 8am-2pm volunteers. To reserve your volunteer spot click HERE today. All Crop Mob volunteers who work with us on 3 or more Crop Mob days during our season (May-November) will receive a free Holland Ranch Crop Mob volunteer t-shirt.
Our Holland Ranch Farm Share CSA memberships have been selling very well. We still have about 20 shares left so if you or someone you know are interested we suggest that you sign up today. CSA members pay $25.00 per week (paid monthly) and receive a weekly box of certified organic, locally grown, farm fresh, direct to you produce. The first CSA pick-up day is at the ranch on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Morning and evening pick-up times times are available.
Don't forget that the Antelope Valley Winery farmer's market begins in just about a month! Come see us and support all of the wonderful local vendors on Saturday May 3, 2014 9am-noon at the winery located on the corner of 20th St W. & Avenue M in Lancaster. We can't wait to see everyone!
